A Day at the Bay

Twitter
Instead of going to the beach today and catch some waves to ride, we took a leisurely walk at the bay instead.
Mission Bay, San Diego
While walking along the bay, we stopped to see a boat race.
One of the Boats at the Race
There were several batches of boat race, according to their categories. In one of the race events, after the race, we saw a boat sank.

After the boats, I focused my attention on the low lying flowers on the ground, the plant look like a member of the succulents, but can not really be sure. It is so low lying, but what attracted me to it was its glass looking texture.
Anybody Knows the Name of this Flower?
Since those flowers are very low lying, I did not have only to drop on my knees to take the picture, I even had to lie down so that the camera is almost touching the ground. While doing so, someone asked me, "what are you taking pictures?" I smiled, and told her, "These flowers, oh well, I actually do not know as well." She looked at me, smiled and asked, " are you a tourist?". And I replied, "no, I'm from here." She was quite surprised with my answer, for probably she thought "how can a local take pictures of the ordinary flowers?" Well, for me, they are not ordinary, at that moment, they were something which caught my eye and had brought beautiful colors to my day.

  3. It is a shame that only tourists are supposed to enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. Stop, and smell the roses is what I always say. I do not know what those flowers are, but they are lovely.

  4. I'm glad that you have some time to relax before another busy week ahead. The pictures are just fantastic, betchai..

I always encounter people who virtually laughed at me for taking pictures of ordinary things.

  5. What a day, you got to witness an interesting event of a boat sinking and being rescued.

Then you met a strange lady who thought you were the strange one for taking photos of flowers. I haven't see such flowers before and I agree with you I the flowers interesting.

I think non photography people find us photography folk strange anyway. To get good photos sometimes we must go the extra mile and lie on the ground.

  7. My husband is a photographer and he takes a lot of photos of things like flowers, bees, etc. Those are amazing macro shots. It is hard to get such a clear close-up photo.

  10. Fascinating boat race pictures! That's funny that when taking pictures of the flowers you were asked if you were a tourist. That happens to me when I take pictures of cactus. I think our cameras help us to see and appreciate the world in new ways.

  15. We have boat races every year at the beginning of summer on the Detroit River. I used to work right down the street from them. We could hear them practicing every day for a week, but I never went up to watch.

Most people unfortunately haven't learned the simple joys of photography like we have. It doesn't take a tourist to have this kind of fun. :)

  17. The flowers certainly don't look ordinary, do they? I don't have a clue what they are. I would be so botanically lost if I moved west it's not funny! Great pix!

  22. Those flowers looked abit like frozen strawberries don't they? Never seen them before. They looked frosted.

A day at the bay reminds me of a place I visited in Perth. A nice way of spending the weekend away from the city.
