Coastal Birds

Twitter
Double Crested Cormorant
Got the chance to take a walk earlier by the bay. Oftentimes, because of the sweeping and scenic view of the bay and the ocean, these small critters around are missed. Unlike the seals and the sea lions who always have constant visitors in their natural habitats , these coastal birds are often simply missed, well, maybe because they choose to flock more on coastal mud flats that may not be as scenic for a lot of people. But luckily for these birds, the coastal mud flats afford them with constant and rich supply of foods that walking along this stretch, one will observe so many bird species aside of course from the more famous California Brown Pelican and very common sea gulls.
Not All Birds That Flock Together Are of the Same Feathers
Heron
Egret
Anyway, these are some of the birds I was able to capture today in my walk at Mission Bay. I really did not wait for sunset anymore, since after a day of learning I was too tired and hungry, I wanted to just eat and sleep, and now, blog a little bit :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

  5. I love the new layout Betchai. I think this is the first time I have seen you post about birds. I liked it. We have tons of birds here. We try to learn what they all are.

  6. I have always enjoyed your coastal scenes and the habitat. These are great captures and one great lesson for me on bird names.

P.S. I got my laptop back and is working 100%. I have a habit of saving my files in the external drive, so I did not loose anything, learned my lesson the hard way. I also back up my blog posts.

  11. Love your bird shots!
It looks green and warm where you are, so different than up here in Ct where yesterday we only had 6 degrees F.

  12. You are lucky to be able to see all these coastal birds, I don't get that chance here since we don't go much around the coastal area here. But I do see a lot of birds at Walmart's parking area. Do you have any clue why the seagulls are flocking the parking areas? Do you think those seagulls should change their name into parkinggulls instead? LOL

  15. I like the second photos with the different types of birds, feeding together. Very much like our students, learning together despite their individual differences. Lovely photos, Beth! Glad to know you find time to blog here and there.

  19. I can say that I have seen egrets! Other than that, I hardly see any birds in the city where I live. Except crows and pigeons.

  21. I recognized the cormorant in the first picture right away. I love seeing them because they are new birds to me after seeing three that routinely visited my favorite little lake last summer.

  25. You maybe mistaking inland freshwater forms of the birds commonly associated with marine coastal areas. There are a couple species on gull you will see just about all year long. The killdeer many people mistake as a marine bird.
