Flying Above Torrey Pines Gliderport, San Diego
Do you think you can fly? If you do, how do you want to fly? Like him?
Hang Gliding
Or like her?
Paragliding
Hang gliding and paragliding are two forms of free flight in purest form. There is no motor, there is no tugging, both can soar the winds like a bird.
Flipping in the Air
Unlike skydiving where there is only one direction which is down, paragliders and hang gliders soar just like birds, they fly up and down, they tease the wind tumbling in the air, they go really high,
or low,
or even lower teasing the grounds and then fly high again. They soar over the ocean,
or above the cliff, soaring like a bird.....
and birds soar with them, flying with them, just like in the above picture. Can you see the bird soaring with the gliders in the picture above? Is that a seagull? a crow? a pelican? the very common birds along the coast? Let's take a closer look.....
This hawk and a sea gull kept on playing with each other, teasing the gliders, and soaring with them high, low, flipping in the air, flying westward, eastward, northbound or south bound.
Do you think you can fly? If you live near San Diego, or have plans of visiting San Diego, you may want to try how it feels to soar like a bird at Torrey Pines Gliderport.
How do these gliders fly? Well, they run and then jump off the cliff! In my next post, I will show you how these gliders run and jump off the cliff to fly....
sana meron nyan dito...gusto ko rin msubukan yan...ang galing nmn ng flying experience nyo...
ReplyDeleteHmm, this reminds me of my childhood dream of flying. :)
ReplyDeleteif i will have the chance to, i will definitely fly as high as them! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... This is awesome Sis. Love the colors of the hang gliders against the blue sky. Simply spectacular.
ReplyDeletei think i can.. if you'll fly with me wonderwoman!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'llever try flying like that...in fact I'm quite afraid of heights
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, betchai. We have a spot, only a few miles from my house, where the hang gliders frolic in the wind gusts as well. It all looks like great fun but, aside from two ventures on hot air balloons over the Napa Valley and one parasailing jaunt in Puerto Vallarta, I fly in airplanes!!!
ReplyDeleteBefore I read the rest of your post, I thought sure one day I will try it. since many people have said they liked it. After reading the rest of your post, I am not sure anymore, up and down? Low and high? I feel sick already, but the thought is so very tempting.
ReplyDeletethis is very cool Betchai, given the chance, definitely i'll give it a go.
ReplyDeletelovely photos.
Holy smoke! You glide?
ReplyDeletevery nice! would love to try that someday.. hehe..
ReplyDeleteI would love to feel this kind of freedom, betchai, but I don't think I can do that in this life time..
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, Betchai and Khai! Did I ever say that you guys are a perfect pair yet?
Glider ka rin po ba? Wow!
ReplyDeleteWe must have the courage to jump off before we can fly....
ReplyDeleteHehehe, I will just settle at Universal's I-fly, I still have the fear of heights....
ReplyDeleteP.S. Sa Pasadena pa rin siya, pero hindi na siya floor nurse; compliance and reporting, but if someone calls in she will relieve. And 40 hrs per week na as oppose to 2 days lang.
Looks like fun, but also amazing views
ReplyDeleteBy looking at these pictures I really feel I can fly..!
ReplyDeleteI think any of these would be great fun. I'd love to try them all. But first I'd have to get over the fear. I'd love to see birds flying alongside me.
ReplyDeleteI wanna fly like them but how do i control that thing? baka di na ako maka-landing hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI used to do that here (Paragliding) and am one of the lucky few to have flown a full size actual sailplane here also. USCD has been trying for years to use the landing strip behind theses cliffs for development, but it is considered a national landmark as a glider port and so far they have been blocked. Charles Lindberg used to soar here.
ReplyDeleteBetchai i dare not jump off to fly. in my country we use a sppeedboat and when the boat is speeding we fly up :D
ReplyDeleteBetchai have you actually done this? My son DJ would love to try this some day. I admit I am nervous.
ReplyDeleteWhoa!!! Are you on one of the glider betchai?? Soo awesome!!! I wanna try!
ReplyDeleteIn response to your question (in the title), beth, YES, if you gave me a million dollars! hahaha:) other than that, i don't think i have the guts to hang glide OR paraglide (although you do know i was married in a hot air balloon and have also gone parasailing. but at least i didn't have to RUN AND JUMP OFF A CLIFF to be airborne! yikes!)..
ReplyDeletethat said, the pictures in this post were a delight to behold! such bright, happy colors against a blue, almost-cloudless sky (do you ever have cloudy days in San Diego, beth?:) ) the FIRST photo was my favorite ... 7 paragliders appearing to fly in the shadow of a bigger and bright red paraglider! i wonder if the red paraglider was the teacher, and all the others the students?
i also loved the photo of a bird soaring alongside the paragliders. kinda reminds me of dolphins and how they love to chase after ships in the ocean, often showing off and frolicking in the waves by the ship:) i bet birds often think the paragliders are birds, too, only bigger and with brighter feathers:)
i can't wait to see the pixs of gliders running and jumping off the cliff to be able to fly, beth:) such brave souls. wow! thank you for sharing this very interesting and photo-rich post with us, beth:) even if i may never jump off a cliff to fly among birds, i was still able to imagine doing that, thanks to this post of yours!
That is so cool. I don't know if I would try it myself since I am afraid of heights but it is fun to look at the photos.
ReplyDeleteOh how beautiful and free that looks but I am afraid I would faint from the heights!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is the only time where people can say they can soar like birds in the air! :)
ReplyDeleteWould love to experience flying in the sky. Nevertheless, the sport might be abit extreme for me.
The first photo looks klilke they are synchronising.
ReplyDeleteI like to watch them fly! Me? I am afraid of heights. ha ha.
ReplyDeleteAmazing motion shots, Beth! Good composition. I love how those colorful gliders stood out against the lovely blue sky! I would love to try it one day!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots! This really makes one wants to fly!
